DIGIBRIKS™ are variously colored interlocking bricks (blocks) that combine the playful utility of building blocks with digitally rendered architectural construction drawings. This hybrid of physical & digital interactive architectural toys is designed to engage children in the field of design and construction early on in their learning and developmental stages. DIGIBRIKS™ are unique from other “competitors” in that they go beyond physical play and into the realm of "smart blocks," interlocking units that can easily produce 3D renderings, architectural plans, building sections and enlarged details comparable to what is used in the construction field today at its most simplistic level. Currently there is no "competitor" that offers the innovation in learning architectural principles via building blocks in a manner proposed by APECx’s DIGIBRIKS™.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) means that APECx recognizes the impact the business has on all aspects of the community. APECx's CSR strategies include going green, producing sustainable products, and giving back to the community via internships and grants that help cover the costs of architectural licensure.
APECx's mission is to promote both sustainability in the production and shipping of its products, as well as fostering the development of young interns who have a dream of one day becoming an architect. A portion of every DIGIBRIKS™ sale will go towards funding costs associated with achieving licensure in architecture. High fees often place students from marginalized communities at a disadvantage, making the pursuit of architectural licensure an elusive dream. In 2021, the costs associated with becoming a licensed architect through the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) process, a multi-division examination used to assess knowledge and skills regarding the practice of architecture, was estimated to cost around $2,000 - $7,000. APECx hopes to financially support students via grants in underserved communities with the funding necessary to aid in the purchase of study materials and costs associated with examination fees.
APECx was founded to challenge the status quo of minority underrepresentation in the field of architecture by fighting against obstacles that prevent diversity and inclusion in design and construction. According to the Census Bureau, racial and ethnic disparities contribute towards both inequities within the profession and missed opportunities in business. After having been employed as a design and lead architect in a full service architecture and engineering firm in Baltimore City for over 13 years, the founder of APECx started the business to take advantage of these missed opportunities. Minority students in architecture want to see their experiences reflected in the buildings they visit and occupy. They want to see how design that accommodates their culture, affects the lives of people who share common experiences. They want to feel both physically and personally connected to what one day they will study and practice as a profession.
Join our mission in inspiring and supporting young architects with every DIGIBRIKS™ purchase!
